SØLEØN behind the booth with guests

Club night, bar evening, company party or private celebration: a DJ shapes the mood of a night more than almost anything else. To turn a request into a clear yes quickly, it pays to clarify a few points first. This checklist helps, whichever DJ you book in the end.

1. Occasion and crowd

Who is coming, how many guests, and what do they expect from the night? A dance floor that should be full from the first minute needs a different build than an evening that starts relaxed and picks up later. Describe the occasion in two or three sentences. That helps any DJ more than a long list of song titles.

2. The right music style

The style decides how a night feels. Melodic House & Techno suits nights made for dancing that need an arc: melodies and pads carry the room, a driving beat keeps it moving. What defines the style is explained in What is Melodic House & Techno?

Ask for a set to listen to before you book. That way you know whether the sound fits your crowd. SØLEØN's High Energy Set plays right on this website.

3. Date, times and set length

Fix when the night starts and ends and how long the DJ should play. With several acts you need clear handovers: who opens, who plays peak time, who closes? Fridays, Saturdays and the weeks before Christmas tend to be booked early. The earlier you ask, the wider your choice.

4. Equipment and venue

Clarify what equipment is on site and who brings what: DJ setup with players or controller, mixer, monitor speakers for the DJ and the sound system for the room. Power, space for the booth and volume limits matter too, for example because of neighbours or a permit until a certain time. For open airs, plan weather protection for equipment and DJ.

5. Budget and quote

The price depends on several factors: date and weekday, playing time, travel, equipment brought along and preparation. A good quote states clearly what is included. Feel free to mention your budget in the request. It saves both sides time.

6. Agreements before the night

A few days before, the last points should be settled: arrival and set-up, a contact person on site, the schedule with speeches or programme items, music wishes and no-gos, food and drinks, and whether photos and videos may appear on social media.

What a good request includes

  • Date and time, including the desired playing time
  • Venue with address and type of space, indoors or outdoors
  • Occasion and number of guests
  • Desired music and mood, ideally with an example
  • Equipment on site or a note that it should be brought
  • Budget and your contact details

As early as possible, once date and venue are fixed. Weekends, the summer months and the weeks before Christmas tend to be booked early.

How much does a DJ cost in Switzerland?

It depends on date, playing time, travel, equipment and preparation. You get a quote after your request; mentioning a budget helps.

Does the DJ bring the equipment?

That is clarified with the request. State what equipment is on site, then you can agree on what needs to be brought.

Can you listen to a DJ beforehand?

Yes, most DJs have sets online. SØLEØN's High Energy Set plays right on soleon-music.ch/en/set/.
